The ATLAS experiment is being constructed by 1700 collaborators in 144 institutes around the world, including PNPI.ATLAS will study proton-proton interactions at the LHC  (Large Hadron Collider) at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics CERN. The detector is due to begin operation in the year 2005. ATLAS is designed to improve our fundamental understanding of matter and forces. A prime physics goal of ATLAS is to understand the nature of mass. Decoded size(bytes)=124972

  • Participation in the subdetector design.
  • Assemblya typeA wheels of the  end–cap  TRT modules, that includes 12 wheels containing 12288 straws each will be done in PNPI-Gatchina.  To  perform this a special production line in Tracking Detectors Department of PNPI is created. Next 16 type B  wheels is a matter of JINR , Dubna  responsibility. Eight type C wheelswill be manufactured in CERN.
  • Wheels' calibration with using  different methods, including own.
  • Participation in cooling system design.
